Staff Selection Commission (SSC)

is an GOVT OF INDIA organisation to recruit staff for various posts in the various Ministries and Departments of the Government of India and in Subordinate Offices. This commission is an attached office of the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) which consists of Chairman, two Members and a Secretary-cum-Controller of Examinations. His post is equivalent to the level of Additional Secretary to the Government of India.

Background

The Estimates Committee in the Parliament recommended the setting up of a Service Selection Commission in its 47th report(1967–68) for conducting examinations for recruitment to lower categories of posts. Later, in the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms, On 4 November 1975 Government of India constituted a Commission called the Subordinate Services Commission. On 26 September 1977, Subordinate Services Commission renamed into Staff Selection Commission.

The functions of the Staff Selection Commission were redefined by the Government of India through Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions in 21 May 1999. Then the new constitution and functions of the Staff Selection Commission came into effect from 1 June 1999.

Exams Conducted by SSC:
SSC Conducts the following exams.
(a) Combined Graduate Level Examination (CGLE) for posts of Inspector in IT/Central Excise/Dept of post,SI in CBI, Assistant, Divisional Accountant, Auditor, UDC, Junior Accountant,UDC etc.
(b) Combined Higher Secondary level examination
(c) Sub-Inspector in CPO (BSF,CRPF,CISF, ITBP,SSB)
(d) Section Officer (Audit & Commercial)
(e) Junior Engineers Examination
(f) SSC conducted exams for recruitment to FCI, Prasar Bharati in 2013

About Staff Selection Commission - Combined Graduate Level Exam (SSC CGLE) :
Staff Selection Commission conducts Combined Graduate Level Examination (SSC – CGL) for recruitment to different Central Civil posts - Assistant / Inspector /SI / Divisional Accountant /Statistical Officer/ Auditor/Accountant/Junior Accountant /UDC / Tax Assistant / Compiler, for which Graduation from a recognized University is the minimum Educational Qualification required. The recruitment for these posts is done in departments of Central Secretariat Service / Central Vigilance Commission / Intelligence Bureau / Ministry of Railways / Ministry of External Affairs / Ministry of Defence / CBI and a few other Ministries / Departments / Organisations of the Central Govt.

Staff Selection Commission (SSC) is a Central Government Recruitment Agency, mandated for making recruitment to Group “B” (NonGazetted) and Group“ C” (Nontechnical) posts in various Departments, Ministries and Subordinate and Attached Offices under Government of India.

SSC CGL Syllabus 2017-18

The syllabus for SSC CGL 2017 is mentioned below. Candidates must look into the change in syllabus and exam pattern and prepare accordingly for SSC CGL 2017 examination.

SSC CGL Tier-I Exam Pattern

Tier-I exam of SSC CGL 2017 is an online mode of examination having 4 sections in total. The total marks allotted for all the sections is 200 and the total time allotted for the completion of all the sections of Tier-I exam is 60 minutes. A cumulative time of 80 minutes is allotted to physically handicapped students. 0.5 marks will be deducted from every question that is attempted wrong by a candidate in SSC CGL 2017 exam.

SSC CGL 2017 Tier-II Exam Pattern

Tier-II exam has a total mark of 200. A total of 100 questions are asked in each section with 200 questions asked in the English Language Section. A time limit of 2 hours is provided to the candidate to complete each section of SSC CGL 2017 Tier-II Exam. The cumulative time to complete Tier-II exam is increased to 2 hours 40 minutes in case of physically handicapped students. 0.25 marks is deducted as penalty for attempting a question wrong.
